Q&A

CLASSES

Our current schedule is listed under “classes” on our website and is pinned to the top of our page on Facebook.

You may register for a class on our site. Choose the class you would like to attend and add it to the cart. The checkout process will walk you through registration. We also accept registration over the phone and in person.

100% of the payment is due prior to the start of class to reserve a space. We accept credit cards, cash and checks.

Should a class be cancelled due to a Sonora School of Sewing concern, we will endeavor to notify all students. Any Cancelation on behalf of the school will be refunded to each student or offered as an additional makeup class or may be credited towards a future class. If you have signed up to attend a class and are unable to make the full class, we ask that cancellations be made no later than 1 week before the class start date for a refund or credit towards the school. For cancellations made less than 1 week of the class beginning, a credit will be applied for a future class. We are unable to offer refunds on an individual class basis.

We are currently a boutique school, and hope to offer accreditation in the near future.

If you are interested in a scholarship or payment plan, contact us directly and we will provide further details.

Our classes range between six and eight students.

In most cases there is no need to bring anything to class. The school has machines, tools and everything needed to construct projects. Certain classes require students to bring in specialized materials, machines or notions which will be discussed prior to the start of class.

We have plenty of machines available for use at the school. If you would prefer to work on your own machine, you are welcome to bring it, along with the user manual.

Where feasible, we will place students in another class offered in the same session. Please keep in mind, that our classes have a maximum capacity, so this option may not always be available. Should you wish to have a private makeup session, the fee for the instructor is $65 an hour.

Our Beginner/Intermediate course is highly recommended for beginners and students interested in honing in their skills.

Intermediate students may attend either the Beginner/Intermediate course or the Intermediate/Advanced course. Our instructors aim to meet students at their current skill level and help them hone in their skills from that point.

In scheduled classes, students choose a project of their choice and all students work on different projects. In workshops students are generally working on the same project.

Students are welcome to bring in patterns that are not in our library. Instructors must approve patterns to insure they are the correct size and ability for the student.

Yes, we are an inclusive space. Everyone is welcome to attend classes. The school has patterns and projects available for use by everyone.

Yes, we offer private lessons. You can find a full list of our private lesson prices and class descriptions under “classes.”

This is a common issue for most seamstresses and tailors. Our “Altering Patterns to Fit Workshop” is customized to assist with adjusting fitting issues on the pattern prior to construction.

We highly suggest dropping your child off, as they focus better when parents are not present. If you have a special circumstance, please inquire.

Yes, we are dedicated to the success of our clients and will happily sign a non-disclosure. Don’t have one? We will provide a non-disclosure for you.

Our consultation services are sewing and manufacturing based. We strongly recommend that market research and target market research is done prior to consulting with us.

Yes. We currently offer traditional pattern drafting services and once the pattern is paid in full, it is property of the client.

Estimates will be provided after a detailed analysis of clients service needs and product review. If a client desires to move forward, a contract with pricing will be signed. A 50% downpayment is due prior to beginning services, and the remainder is due once the service is complete. Once the final payment is received, the products will be shipped at the clients expense.

CLOTH & HABERDASHERY

Our shop contains medium to high end cloth sourced from lands near and far. Linen, rayon, cotton and wool are a handful of fibers you will find in our shop, as well as graph rulers, thread clips, shaker boxes, sewing kits, patterns and bees wax.

Our hours are dependent on when we have classes running. We are generally open Monday – Friday and occasionally on weekends. If the lights are on, we are in.

Haberdashery is a notion, such as buttons, zippers and sewing tools.

We sell fabric by the yard on our site. In-person, we sell in increments as small as 1/8 of a yard.

All current students will receive a 10% discount on fabric and haberdashery.
